Press Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia on Act of Terrorism at the Makassar Cathedral Church, from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java Province, on Sunday, 28 March 2021

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Peace and prosperity be upon us.

On the act of terrorism at the entrance to the Makassar Cathedral Church today, I strongly condemn this act of terrorism. And, I have ordered the National Police Chief to thoroughly investigate the perpetrators’ network and dismantle the network to its roots.

Terrorism is a crime against humanity and has nothing to do with any religion. All religious teachings reject terrorism for whatever reason.

All state apparatus will not tolerate this kind of terrorism. And, I ask the public to remain calm in carrying out worship because the state guarantees the security of religious people to worship without fear.

I invite all members of society to fight terrorism together, to fight radicalism that is against religious values, our noble values ​​as a nation that upholds divine values ​​and  the values ​​of diversity.

For the injured victims, we pray that they are given a speedy recovery, and the state guarantees all medical and care expenses for the victims.
