Press Statement of the President of the Republic of Indonesia on the Inspection of Rumpin Seed Source and Nursery Center , 27 November 2020, at Bogor Regency, West Java Province
Date 27 November 2020
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
Today, here I am in Rumpin, Bogor Regency. This is a site for which we prepare a nursery. We hope it will be completed next year and be in full operation.
And we hope there will be approximately 16 million seedlings produced here. We will distribute these seedlings to locations that often hit by floods and landslides. In addition to ecological functions, we hope the produced seedlings will also have economic functions. Previously, I ordered the Rumpin nursery center to produce plants that have both ecological and economic functions since we want to develop a green economy in the future. I ordered them to plant the fast growing species albasia, eucalyptus, mahogany, kaya, intsia, ebony, teak, and also fruit plants such as durian and others.
We hope that we will start to develop seven more nurseries next year. The nurseries are located in Bogor in West Java, Toba in North Sumatra, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, and Likupang in North Sulawesi.
And we also prepare nursery locations for the restoration of our mangrove forests. We have planned to work on approximately 630 thousand hectares of mangroves and we need to prepare a nursery location immediately.
In the future, Indonesia wants to move towards a sustainable green economy. And we hope the economic impact at the grassroots level will be more visible.
That concludes my remarks.
Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
