Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad Expresses His Condolences

Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad expressed his condolences and sympathy for the earthquake in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The Prime Minister called President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday (7/8) at around 3 p.m. Western Indonesian Time to extend his sympathy.

“Your Excellency Tuh Mahathir, I would like to thank you for your call. On behalf of the Government and the people of Indonesia, I would like to express my appreciation for attention and concern from the Government as well as the people of Malaysia on the earthquake that struck North Lombok, which tremors also shook Bali and eastern part of Java island,” the President said at the Merdeka Palace.

President Jokowi told the Prime Minister that  the earthquake killed at least 105 people and left 236 people injured. At the moment, the Government continues to carry out evacuation and undertake disaster mitigation.

“Once again, thank you for the concern shown by Malaysia. Thank you for Tun Mahathir’s call who is in Japan now,” the President further said. (BPMI/EN) (MMB/YM/Naster)
