Prominent Muslim Cleric Gus Sholah Passes Away

Salahuddin Wahid (better known as Gus Sholah)—a prominent Muslim scholar from Nahdlatul Ulama—passed away at age 77 on Sunday (2/2) evening.

Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun (We belong to God and to God we shall return). I just received the news that Kyai Salahuddin Wahid has passed away,” President Jokowi stated in his Twitter account, Sunday (2/2) night.

The President also extended deep condolences upon his passing. “May Allah accept his good deeds and grant his family patience. Amen,” the President added.

For the record, Gus Sholah was born in Jombang, 11 September 1942 and he is the younger brother of Indonesia’s fourth President Abdurrahman Wahid.

Prior to his death, Gus Sholah led one of the country’s largest Islamic boarding schools Tebuireng in Jombang, East Java. (EN)
