Proposal to Abolish Gubernatorial Position Needs In-Depth Study: President Jokowi
The proposal to abolish gubernatorial positions in Indonesia requires an in-depth study, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.
“It requires an in-depth study. This is a democratic country and everyone may state their opinion. However, every proposal needs to be reviewed and should be carefully calculated,” the President said in a press conference after visiting Baturiti market in Tabanan, Bali, Thursday (02/02).
For the record, the proposal to abolish gubernatorial positions was made by Chairperson of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar.
According to the President, several factors should be considered in reviewing the proposal, including level of efficiency and span of control if the position is abolished.
“Could it be more efficient? Would the span of control be too far, namely from the Central Government to regents or mayors? The span of control must be reviewed,” the President remarked. (RF/UN) (RI/EP)
