Protection for Indonesian migrant workers covers legal, economic, and social aspect, according to Chief Secretary of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) Tatang Budie Utama Razak.

“Protection for Indonesian migrant workers during working hours is provided in accordance with the law, purpose of placement, as well as national laws and customs, and not by taking over their criminal and/or civil liability,” Tatang said on the BNP2TKI Public Relations Coordinating Board (Bakohumas) Forum held at Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (12/12).

Meanwhile, protection for Indonesian migrant workers after working hours is provided by both the central Government and regional governments, he added.

Tatang added that measures to improve migrant workers as stipulated in Law Number 18 of 2017 includes placement mechanism, placement of skilled migrant workers driven by the rising number of vocational training centers, as well as effective, efficient, and transparent one-stop integrated services.
