Religious Affairs Minister: Hajj Pilgrims First Batch to Depart on May 12, 2024

Minister for Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas mentioned that the first batch of Indonesian hajj pilgrims of 1445 Hijri year/2024 hajj season is slated to depart on May 12, 2024. The departure process will take place until June 10, 2024.

Insya Allah, I will attend the send-off ceremony for the first batch of Indonesian hajj pilgrims in Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng district, on May 12, 2024,” Religious Affairs Minister gave his statement, Monday (05/06), prior to his departure to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday (05/07) early in the morning to check the final preparation.

“I will visit Saudi Arabia to check the final preparation of the hajj services for Indonesian hajj pilgrims. I will check it in Mecca, Madinah, including in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina,” he said.

In Jeddah, the Minister said he will have a meeting with Masyariq (the local company which provides the hajj services) to discuss a number of services under their responsibility.

“We also want to discuss mitigation measures to ensure the services run well and to prevent last year’s incident from re-occurring,” the Minister mentioned.

This year’s hajj season, Indonesia has a quota of 241 thousand hajj pilgrims, consisting of 213,320 regular hajj pilgrims and 27,680 special hajj pilgrims.

“Either in Mecca or Madinah, we will check the preparedness of the hotel and the consumption for the pilgrims. We will also check the preparedness of shalawat bus terminal (terminal of buses for hajj pilgrims).

Prior to the arrival of hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, Ministry of Religious Affairs will send Indonesian Haj Management Committee (PPIH) for 1445 Hijri year/2024. The PPIH advance team has departed on May 2, 2024. Afterwards, the PPIH at the airports and Madinah will depart on May 8, 2024. Meanwhile, the PPIH at Mecca will depart on May 15, 2024.
