Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at Inauguration of Airport Expansion, in Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, July 21, 2022

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Distinguished Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, Governor and spouse, Regent and spouse, prominent figures,

Honorable religious figures,

What do you think Labuan Bajo’s lacking? The roads have been expanded; seaport has been relocated from here to the new location. We have renovated tourist attraction spots. Labuan Bajo has everything: the culture, picturesque scenery, beautiful beaches, and home to Komodo dragon, which you cannot find it anywhere, except in Komodo Island and Rinca Island. This is our virtue that must be seized to bring prosperity to the locals.

For that reason, we will continue to improve facilities that are considered lacking. Here, terminals of the Komodo Airport, have been expanded. If it is not enough, we can expand it again. If the airport is packed, we must expand it once more. Earlier, Minister of Transportation has told me that the runway is not long enough. If it is expanded by 100 meters, it will be suitable for wide-body aircrafts. Do it. If the expansion cannot be done this year, it must be done next year. Thus, international flights from other countries can directly land in Labuan Bajo.

We expect the increase in the number of both international and domestic tourists can make Labuan Bajo more popular. The most important thing is to bring prosperity to the people, particularly those living in East Nusa Tenggara.

That concludes my remarks on this auspicious occasion. By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today I hereby inaugurate the expansion of Labuan Bajo’s Komodo Airport.
