Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Mayapada Hospital Nusantara, Nusantara Capital City, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province, November 1, 2023

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Alhamdulillah, thank God, today we are here at the groundbreaking ceremony for a hospital construction. The Mayapada Hospital Nusantara is the second hospital to be built in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). The hospital will become a green hospital, and will support the acceleration of the development of the IKN as the first capital city in the world with the concept of a forest city.

Mayapada Hospital Nusantara will adopt energy efficiency and conservation. We will always promote a green agenda for our capital city. On this site, the environmentally friendly hospital will operate, with 20 percent of the total land area used as a green area. The hospital will be equipped with a therapy garden and a park management system to boost patient recovery.

I hope that in the future Mayapada Hospital will set an example of an environmentally friendly hospital by optimizing the use of technology, adopting efficient use of energy and water, maximizing sunlight, developing an excellent used-water recycling system, as well as providing retention ponds to absorb rainwater and recycle water.

I am of the view that Mayapada Hospital has good experience and cooperation with its international partners. I have inaugurated two hospitals of Pak Dato Tahir and Pak Jonathan, in Jakarta and in Bandung. This hospital is the third one. I believe that the experience that Mayapada Hospital and its international partners have will enable the hospital to provide professional services, handle complex health cases, and bring benefits for communities, for the Government, for insurance companies, as well as for domestic and foreign companies. As I previously said, the hospital should also provide services for participants of the Healthcare Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan).

I hope that the construction of the hospital would be carried out immediately after the groundbreaking, and by the second semester of 2024, the hospital would be ready to operate and provide services, including maternal and child care, cardiological emergency, stroke, emergency, and orthopedic services.

I fervently believe that this hospital will be an excellent hospital, in cooperation with Apollo Hospital in India. Increasing number of facilities and improvement quality of health services in the IKN will reduce demand of the residents of the IKN to seek medical treatment abroad. Almost two million Indonesian citizens seek medical treatment abroad every year. That brings the money abroad, with the capital outflow of almost more than Rp100 trillion. Every year our citizens bring their money abroad for medical treatment. We hope that the establishment of Mayapada Hospital in the IKN can significantly reduce that demand.
