Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of Ewer Airport Terminal, in Asmat Regency, South Papua Province, July 6, 2023

Good morning,
May peace be upon us all.

Distinguished Minister of Transportation and the ministers in attendance, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI);

Distinguished Governor of South Papua and all staff, I heard earlier that Governor Dr. Ir. Apolo Safanpo is also from Asmat, I just found out;

Distinguished Regent of Asmat, Mr. Elisa Kambu, along with the Forkopimda of Asmat regency;

Ladies and gentlemen, all the people of Asmat.

I would like to praise God the Almighty that with his blessings, we can build the Ewer Airport in Asmat regency, South Papua province, and we can use it today to serve the transportation needs of the people in Asmat regency. This is very important to improve connectivity between a region, be it district, province or island, because it will accelerate the mobility of people and the movement of goods. It will also open the isolation and will speed up logistical shipments.

And, earlier I received a report that now, from Timika there are two flights a week, from Kamur there are four flights a week, and from Merauke there are four flights a week. This will certainly increase Asmat tourism.

We hope that with the completion of Asmat Airport, Asmat will continue to develop and make a progress. And, we hope that the economy in Asmat regency and in South Papua province in general will get better.

I conclude my remarks. And, by asking for the blessings and grace of God the Almighty, I hereby inaugurate Ewer Airport in Asmat regency, South Papua province.
