Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of Mayapada Hospital Bandung in Bandung City, West Java Province, March 6, 2023

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Good morning.

May peace be upon us all.

Distinguished Minister of Health, Minister of State Secretary, Vice Governor of West Java Province, Mayor of Bandung,

Distinguished founder and owner of Mayapada Group Prof. Dr. Dato Sri Tahir, all members of the Board of Directors of Mayapada Hospital Bandung,

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,

I just entered the hospital—Mayapada Hospital Bandung. Everything I saw, the rooms, the medical devices, the spatial planning, the green buildings are excellent. Based on the information I received, almost two million of our people still go abroad to seek medical care although we have hospitals such as this. Almost two million; one million, approximately one million [patients] go to Malaysia, approximately 750,000 go to Singapore and the rest go to Japan, Germany, the United States, and so on. Should we let it go on like this? We have lost Rp165 trillion of our foreign exchange because there is capital outflow. Therefore, I highly support the constructions of hospitals like Mayapada Hospital Bandung.

We do have problems. There are still specialist doctor as well as subspecialist doctor shortages in Indonesia. I have ordered Minister of Health to solve the problem. Many medical devices and physical facilities already have good quality, but there are still many that do not have good quality, so they must be improved. Thus, hospital service for the people will be better. I also ordered Minister of Health, I will also order Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, to facilitate the education of specialist doctors. Therefore, our people who are ill can receive proper healthcare.

I wanted to order the President Director of Mayapada Hospital Bandung not to serve only the upper middle class but also the Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS) patients. Apparently, the hospital has already served many BPJS patients. Thank you.

That concludes my statement on this auspicious occasion and by saying bismillahirrohmanirrohim, this morning I inaugurate Mayapada Hospital Bandung in Bandung city, West Java province.
