Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of Pakupatan Terminal (Type A), Serang City, Banten Province, January 8, 2024

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Good afternoon,

May prosperity be upon us all.

Distinguished Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, present here with me Minister of Transportation, Minister of Public Works and Housing, Minister of Trade;

Distinguished religious figures, public figures who are attending [this event], Governor of Banten province, Mayor of Serang city;

Distinguished Chair of the Commission V of the House of Representatives;

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We can see that at this moment almost all cities, particularly the cities in Java island, are experiencing traffic jam, some cities experience heavy traffic jam, other cities experience light traffic jams, and some of them just begin to experience it. Why? It is because nowadays almost all people who have just improved their economy and financial well-being buy cars, motorcycles, all of them use private vehicles and do not use public transportation, mass transportation.

Therefore, we continue to encourage Jakarta, for instance, we have launched MRT, LRT whose construction has just been completed, Commuter Line, Transjakarta; they all are provided to encourage people to use public transportation instead of private transportation. All cities must start to think about it, using mass transportation, using public transportation.

I am very happy that Pakupatan terminal is very busy, how many buses are there, sir? Four hundred buses every day, this is very good. Later, if this very beautiful and very modern terminal accommodates more buses and passengers, it shows that people’s mobility to use public transportation, mass transportation will be higher. That is what we hope for. Also, the image of bus terminal is an unsafe place with many thugs should be improved. No, we should change that, a bus terminal is a comfortable place with good services, and also encourages small and medium enterprises to sell their products at the terminals we have.

That concludes my remarks. I really appreciate the cooperation between Ministry of Transportation and the regional government, the provincial government and the city government, so Pakupatan Terminal is finally built. And, by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today I inaugurate Pakupatan Terminal of Serang city, Banten province.
