Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of the National Strategic Project of Tangguh Train 3 in Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua Province, November 24, 2023

Good morning,
May prosperity be upon us all.

Distinguished Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, Head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force, BP Executive Vice President of Gas and Low Carbon [Energy], Madame Anja-Isabel [Dotzenrath];

Distinguished BP Regional President Asia-Pacific Madame Kathy Wu, Governor of West Papua, Regent of Teluk Bintuni,

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen.

Praise be to God, Alhamdulillah, today we are inaugurating Tangguh Train 3 project, Indonesia’s largest geothermal energy producer. And we will also conduct groundbreaking ceremony for Ubadari CCUS, blue ammonia downstreaming, as well as Asap Kido Merah oil and gas field projects.

The Tangguh Train project is built with an investment value of US$4.83 billion or equivalent to Rp72.45 trillion. This project will increase Tangguh’s LNG production up to 11.4 million tons per annum and contribute significantly to support daily target gas production of 12 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD) by 2030.

I would like to convey my gratitude for this latest investment. And I am glad that this project will create a lot of employment opportunities for domestic workers. As of today, 70 percent of Tangguh’s operational workforce are employees from West Papua and Papua provinces. I’ve also learned that Tangguh LNG sets a target that by 2029, 85 percent of its operational workforce will be native Papuans. This is excellent. Currently, 105 LNG Plant operation and maintenance technicians are the young generation of West Papua and Indonesia, recruited since high school. They pursued their education programs provided by BP in Berau.

I suppose that concludes my remarks on this auspicious occasion. While wishing for the blessings and grace of the Almighty God, I hereby inaugurate the National Strategic Project of Tangguh Train 3 in Teluk Bintuni regency, West Papua province.
