Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of West Semarang Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in Semarang City, Central Java Province, January 23, 2024

May peace be upon us all.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are aware that an issue regarding water will arise if we don’t set up a plan from now. Thus, we start preparing it. The city of Semarang is a great example of water, I mean, clean water management. The project is built through the government-to-business cooperation (KPBU) scheme using Rp870 billion of budget; Rp329 billion of which is sourced from the Central Government, Rp124 billion from regional government, and Rp417 billion from private enterprises. As you see, this is a project on health since the facility has connected more than 60 percent of household. The SPAM has the capacity of 1,000 liters per second and distributes [clean water] to 70,000 households that cover 350,000 people in West Semarang, Ngaliyan, and Tugu.

Once again, the SPAM is built as a joint project by the Central Government, regional government, and private sector. It is a pilot project of a piped water management system. In the future, other cities will follow suit. Lastly, I hope that the new SPAM can be maintained, so it will bring concrete benefits to the people in meeting their needs for a sustainable and affordable clean water supply.

That concludes my remarks. By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today I inaugurate West Semarang Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in Semarang city, Central Java province.
