Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Launching Ceremony of the Construction of Jakarta MRT East-West Line Phase 1 Stage 1, Jakarta, September 11, 2024

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh;
Good morning;
May prosperity be upon us all.

Your Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen.

In March 2019, we had operated phase 1 of  the North-South MRT Line connecting Lebak Bulus to the Hotel Indonesia (HI). The phase 1 of the North-South line has changed the face of Jakarta, has changed the face of Jakarta transportation, and has changed our country, Indonesia. Since its operation, the Jakarta MRT has provided services to more than 120 million passengers, a very large number.

Currently, the construction of the phase 2a of the North-South MRT Line connecting HI to Kota area is still underway. We are committed to expanding the MRT network so that we start the project of Jakarta MRT East-West Line phase 1 stage 1. The project, spanning 24.5 kilometers, will connect Medan Satria to Tomang.

The project will strengthen Jakarta’s position as a global city and agglomeration center with modern public transportation. The civilization with a modern transportation system will be achieved after the MRT project is completed.

That concludes my remarks. By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this morning I officially launch the construction of Jakarta MRT East-West Line phase 1 stage 1.
