Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Launching of Electric Vehicle (EV) Ecosystem Development Collaboration, MT. Haryono Pertamina Gas Station, South Jakarta, February 22, 2022

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Good afternoon,
Peace and prosperity be upon us.

Honorable ministers, company leaders, CEO of Electrum, CEO of Gojek, CEO of Pertamina, CEO of GoTo, CEO of IBC, CEO of Gesits,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let me reiterate that the Government is very serious about transitioning to new and renewable energy, including electric vehicles (EVs).

Therefore, I truly appreciate the courage of the companies I previously mentioned, the CEOs, to enter from upstream to downstream, to start establishing an EV ecosystem.

And we hope that it is in line with our target of 2030, to realize carbon emissions at 29 percent. Then in 2060, we will achieve net-zero carbon emissions.

Accordingly, with the support of the EV ecosystem from upstream to downstream, we hope Indonesia will truly dominate and become a producer of EVs.

We have set a target that in 2025, two million EVs are to be used by Indonesians and we will continue to the export markets.

Once again, I truly appreciate the efforts. And we hope that the construction of electric battery factory can be completed soon so that it can produce in large capacities.

We already have vehicles such as Wika-Gesits. The production capacity will also be increased, maybe in collaboration with companies from Taiwan, such as Gogoro so that the EV ecosystem can be truly developed and is ready to compete with other countries.

This concludes my remarks on this auspicious occasion. I have also seen how the vehicles can be plugged to the charger that has been prepared in a short time, taking a new one, then inserting the old one.

I believe this kind of managing process is what vehicle users want.  It will attract everyone’s interest to get into EVs because they are cheaper and, most importantly, they do not cause pollution.
