Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia during Submission of the 2021 Judicial Commission Annual Report (virtually), at the State Palace, Jakarta, March 9, 2022
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Good morning,
May prosperity be upon us all,
Om Swastiastu,
Namo Buddhaya,
Greetings of virtue.
Honorable Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia;
Honorable Head of the Judicial Commission;
Honorable Chairmen of State Institutions;
Honorable Vice Head and Members of the Judicial Commission;
Honorable Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
The Government extends appreciation to the Judicial Commission for showing transparency to all the people through annual report submission, having been open to advice, and strengthening supports for improvement. Transparency, participation, and adaptation are the keys to facing monumental challenges.
The public has high expectation towards state institutions. We are demanded to provide better services, create more professional and adaptive government system and public services. We also have to be more productive, work faster in the era of disruption and competition.
The Judicial Commission is also demanded to provide services and responses to fulfil people’s rights and interest, and to realize the independence of justice system in order to enforce law and justice. Therefore, the Government supports every measure taken by the Judicial Commission to improve service quality by implementing and enhancing its digital-based services, such as in the process of judges’ recruitment, the report of the judges’ attitude, whistleblowing system, online complaints to Judicial Commission by using KY mobile application at digital content service application.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The role of Judicial Commission in justice reformation is very important, it strengthens the presence of the state in conducting corruption-free, noble, and trusted system reformation and law enforcement. As a balancing institution, the Judicial Commission should be able to perform the function of independent external monitoring, so the independent authority of the judiciary can be parallel with the accountability of the justice process.
The Judicial Commission should be able to ensure that every act that puts the honor and nobility of the judges at stake can be settled with the best way, so the authority, honor, and nobility of the judges, as well as the honor of justice institutions will always be preserved. Today, progressive measures are needed to cover the lack of judges ad hoc for corruption cases at the Supreme Court and judges for the state administration to handle tax cases who have a very crucial role to ensure protection for the state income derived from the tax sector.
In assuming the role as the guard of independence, impartiality, and respect of the judges, the Judicial Commission (KY) must ensure the integrity of judges and judges ad hoc of the Supreme Court (MA), and judges with integrity through a transparent, objective, and professional selection process.
The Judicial Commission must also ensure that candidates for the judges proposed to the House of Representatives must have good track record, integrity, competency, and also have high motivation and commitment to eradicate corruption.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to express my appreciation on the formation of the team that bridge the communication between the Judicial Commission and Supreme Court, especially in finding solution whenever disagreement occurs, and also in conducting joint investigation of reports made by the people and justice seekers.
Strategic partnership between the Judicial Commission and Supreme Court is the key to preserve the honor of the judges in making decision in cases, so we could restrict and break off the action of justice mafia and other mafias that have broken the trust in the judges as well as justice institutions, and have wounded the people who seek for justice.
The achievement of Judicial Commission to improve the integrity of the judges and protect the honor of justice institutions is very important in order to improve the order of life as a nation and a state, and to make concrete contribution to realize justice for all Indonesian people.
That concludes my remarks. May God the Almighty always guide our steps to show our best dedication to the people, the country, and the state.
I thank you.
Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Om santi santi santi om,
May God bless us.
