Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia During the Inauguration Ceremony of Karalloe Dam in Tompobulu District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi Province 23 November 2021

Honorable Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs; and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing,
Honorable House of Representatives Vice Chairman of Commission V Iwan Hermawan,
Honorable Acting South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, Regent of Gowa Regency, Regent of Jeneponto Regency, and Regents and Mayors attending this occasion,

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
Alhamdulillah, “[The construction of] Karalloe Dam costs a budget of Rp1.27 trillion. Today, alhamdulillah, it has been completed and ready to be inaugurated. The dam that can irrigate up to 7-thousand-hectare of farming land in Jeneponto Regency is situated in Gowa Regency, but it can bring benefits to the farmers in Jeneponto Regency. Seven thousand, once again, seven thousand hectares, it is so vast. So, with Karalloe Dam, farmers who could previously harvest paddy only once, and other plants once, next time, insya Allah, they can harvest paddy twice and then other plants once; hence it will increase the farmers’ income and welfare.
This dam will also reduce floods, especially in Jeneponto, by up to 49 percent. We remember that in 2019, Jeneponto was struck by severe floods. With Karalloe Dam, the water flow of flood can be reduced by up to 49 percent. The Karalloe Dam can also bring positive impacts on the local people as it can manage the water. It can also be used as an electric generator and can contain raw water, all of which are for the benefits of the people.
Lastly, by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I hereby inaugurate Karalloe Dam in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi Province.
