Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia during the Inauguration of Purworejo Terminal in Purworejo Regency, Mendolo Terminal in Wonosobo Regency, Purboyo Terminal in Madiun City, and Patria Terminal in Blitar City, in Purworejo Regency, Central Java Province, January 2, 2024

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Good morning,

May prosperity be upon us all,

Distinguished Minister for Transportation, Governor of Central Java province, Vice Governor of East Java province, Regent of Purworejo, Regent of Wonosobo, Mayor of Madiun, Mayor of Blitar,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Distinguished Guests,

Nowadays, traffic jam happens in almost all cities. It happens because people use private vehicles, private cars, mostly motorcycles, so the problem must be addressed.  Even small cities experience traffic jam, so we have to keep promoting mass transportation, public transportation.

We know that Jakarta already has MRT although the construction has not been completed yet, it also has LRT which has not been completed yet, it has KRL which is still insufficient, it has fast train which is quite helpful but only reaches Bandung city. It is not easy, but we should be confident in building facilities and infrastructure that support mass transportation, that support public transportation.

Despite the pros and cons, such as building high speed train, in the future, the cities in Java island will be connected, creating an agglomeration. So, if the mass transportation is not developed, [we] will be stuck in traffic jam, and it can happen if we do not develop it. For instance, going out in Jakarta, we are stuck in traffic jams.

Therefore, I really appreciate the development of bus terminals, four bus terminals, by Ministry of Transportation in Purworejo regency, Wonosobo regency, Madiun city, and Blitar city, because it will support transportation facilities and infrastructure, and improve connectivity between cities, regencies, and provinces.

A terminal bus supposed to be like this, I have seen the inside. Previously, a bus terminal is associated with [a place of] thugs. This image has to change because bus terminal provides public service that also supports economic growth. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises should be involved.

I have also asked Minister for Transportation to revamp the bus terminals in other cities, therefore, not only Purworejo regency, Wonosobo regency, and Blitar city have good bus terminals, but all cities throughout Indonesia will also have bus terminals with the same standards.

I think that conclude my remarks. By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today I inaugurate Purworejo Terminal in Purworejo regency, Mendolo Terminal in Wonosobo regency, Purboyo Terminal in Madiun city, and Patria Terminal in Blitar City, East Java province.
