Your Excellency Chancellor Olaf Scholz,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning,

Guten Morgen,

Welcome to the Indonesian-German Business Summit.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The current global economic condition is facing uncertainty. The World Bank has projected that the global economic growth potential could record an all-time low. However, amid this uncertainty, Indonesia’s economy remains steady and becomes “a bright spot” (of the global economy) instead. In 2022, Indonesia’s economy grew by 5.31 percent – the highest growth since 2014.

Today, I’d like to invite Germany to be a part of our progress. Indonesia and Germany have had a long-standing partnership. In the 18th century, Siemens & Helke created the first telegram line in Surabaya (Indonesia). Partnership with Germany embodies equal, respectful, mutual North-South partnership that also reflect future partnership.

Let me underscore three Indonesia’s current priorities.

Firstly, industrial downsteaming. To increase added values, to maintain sustainability, and to create more jobs, Indonesia stands ready to be a strategic partner in developing semiconductor industry and manufacturing electric vehicles (EV) battery.

I seek support of German business players in making Indonesia a part of the global supply chain for the [semiconductor] chip.

Secondly, energy transition. Indonesia is committed to creating a better world given that we have great potentials for new renewable energy amounting to 434,000 megawatts. To that end, we need support through innovative financing, high-tech technology transfer, as well as workforce reskilling.

Thirdly, the development of Indonesia’s new capital of Nusantara (IKN). The development is not the construction of a new city from scratch but is a new hub development that will connect existing various facilities in the surrounding cities.

Nusantara is a smart and sustainable forest city with 65 percent of its land tropical forests and will be built based on green energy and green economy principles.

Do come and invest in many sectors you can choose from. Indonesia will remain a safe, stable, and prospective destination for your business.

I thank you.

Danke.
