Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia on the Inauguration of Singkawang Airport, March 20, 2024

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Chairperson of the House of Representatives for Commission V,

Ministers of Indonesia Onward Cabinet, Minister of Transportation, Minister of State-owned Enterprises, and Minister of Public Works and Housing.

Governor of West Kalimantan Province, Mayor of Singkawang,

Chairperson of the Presidential Advisory Council,

Pak Aguan and Singkawang local entrepreneurs who have participated in building this airport,

Alhamdulillah, praise and gratitude to Almighty God Allah SWT, today, this morning we will inaugurate Singkawang Airport operations in Singkawang City, West Kalimantan Province. Singkawang Airport was built with funding through the scheme of Public Private Partnership (KPBU) and CSR program of successful Singkawang entrepreneurs.

Minister of Transportation has informed us that the budget for building this airport was from the State Budget amounting to Rp272 billion and the private sector amounting to Rp155 billion. In this opportunity, I would like to convey my gratitude for the partnership. If this scheme can be applied for building airports, projects, or seaports, it will accelerate infrastructure development all over Indonesia. It means that local communities in regency and province have participated in developing their regions. Once more, I thank Singkawang entrepreneurs for their participation.

This airport has been built since 2019 with 2,000 meter-runway and the terminal was built on an area of 8,000 square meters. Then, we hope that the airport will accelerate people, goods, and logistics mobility from and to Singkawang. We also hope that in the future there will be new economic growth spots in Singkawang City.

I talked to Minister of Transportation that the building of this airport can be an example for as well as copied and replicated by other regions, particularly the collaboration scheme. Public Private Partnership plus CSR are ideal collaboration. Once more, this scheme will accelerate potential development in various regions of our homeland.

That concludes my remarks today. I request Minister of Transportation to provide soon more flights to Singkawang with full passengers when the airport is ready. Full passengers will invite more airlines to Singkawang.
