Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia on Welcoming the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Athletes, 13 August 2021, at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java Province
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatulahi wabarakatuh,
Good morning,
May peace be upon us all,
Om swastiastu,
Namo buddhaya,
Greetings of virtue.
Distinguished Minister of Youth and Sports;
Distinguished Chief of Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI);
Distinguished Chef de Mission of Indonesian Contingent;
Distinguished Chairperson of Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) Agung Firman Sampurna—I did not see you, Sir, because you had your mask on, my apologies;
Athletes, Coaches, Officials, and Companions;
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank God, we must be grateful. You have returned to the Motherland safe and sound. And the people and I are very proud of your fight and hard work that you have done in Tokyo. And I highly appreciate the medals you have won, as stated by Minister of Youth and Sports.
And I would also like to say congratulations once again to medal winners, including gold, silver, and bronze (medal) winners. Let me also thank all athletes, coaches, officials, companions, and Chef de Mission, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Japan, and all parties that have made this huge event successful.
And thank you for the gold medal given by women’s doubles badminton pair. It continues the tradition of (earning) Olympic gold medals in badminton for Indonesia. Once again, congratulations for the champions, the gold medal won by women’s doubles pair Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu, the silver medal won by Mr. Eko Yuli Irawan in men’s 61-kilogram weightlifting, and three bronze medals won by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in badminton men’s singles, Windy Cantika Aisah in women’s 49-kilogram weightlifting, and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah in men’s 73-kilogram weightlifting.
And, for the achievements that you have made, the Government is giving bonus as an award, but perhaps I need not mention the amount. Do I need to? Because it is amid the pandemic. But it is alright, isn’t it? I will mention it.
So, for gold medal winners, (the bonus is) Rp5.5 billion. Then, for silver medal winner, Rp2.5 billion. Then, for bronze medal winners, Rp1.5 billion. Bonus is also given to coaches and athletes who did not win medals. (The amount) is fairly big, but I do not have to mention it.
I hope the achievements that you made can be an inspiration, can be an example, can be a drive and motivation for athletes and all of our people to continue to work hard, make achievements, and give the best to their nation and country.
That concludes my speech on this auspicious occasion.
I thank you.
Let me end the speech.
Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. (DH/LW)
