President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo urged the newly appointed young officers of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to safeguard Pancasila (state ideology) and the country’s unity in diversity as well as to maintain tolerance.

“Do safeguard Pancasila from external ideologies and unity in diversity (Bhineka Tunggal Ika) principle and maintain tolerance amidst differences among Indonesians,” the President said during the inauguration ceremony of TNI and Polri young officers at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (16/7).

The President went on to say that the young officers are also obliged to uphold their code of ethics, defend the honor of the institutions, preserve unity among TNI and Polri officers, and respect their respective functions and duties.

“Carry out your duty with optimism and full of confidence,” President Jokowi said, while congratulating the parents of the officers and said that the parents and the nation must be proud of the young officers.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also said that the young officers had gone through very rigorous screening and training that pushed them to achieve excellent mental and physical fitness. “I am proud to appoint all of you as young officers,” he said. (AGG/RAH/ES)
