President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana on Saturday (23/5) offered Eid al-Fitr 1 Shawwal 1441 Hijri greetings at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java province.

“Happy Eid al-Fitr 1 Shawwal 1441 Hijri, mohon maaf lahir dan batin (literally means ‘forgive me for my physical and emotional wrongdoings’),” President Jokowi said.

According to the President, this year’s Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated in a different way due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The President also urged the people not to participate in a mass exodus (mudik).

“I understand that it will be difficult, but the safety of our friends and relatives is way more important,” the President said, adding that the safety and health condition should be a priority.

“I believe, the Indonesian people will be able to ride out this COVID-19 crisis,” the President said. (BPMI / EN)
