Sanctions imposed on those flouting health protocols should be adjusted to local wisdoms deemed relevant to respective regions, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said.

According to the President, he gave governors freedom to determine relevant local wisdoms to be imposed.

“I will also immediately issue a presidential decree as a legal umbrella for governors to impose sanctions on those flouting health protocols,” the President said at Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java province, Wednesday (15/7).

West Java province, according to the President, has started to impose sanctions to raise public awareness regarding implementation of health protocols.

The Head of State also pointed out that governors must carry out crisis management and must not work in a “business as usual” mode; thereby regulations or standard operating procedures (SOPs) need simplifying.

The President also ordered governors to work hard in tackling the pandemic and in rebuilding the economy. (FID/EN)
