President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo asserted that his instruction to all ministries/institutions to take budget efficiency measures was actually not announced this year alone.

According to the President, the Government issued the same instruction to the last year’s State Budget (APBN). “That is aimed at increasing capital expenditures,” President Jokowi responded to reporters’ questions after delivering a joint press conference with the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani.

Previously, the two leaders led a bilateral meeting between delegations of the two countries on Wednesday (5/4), at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

“I guess there are a lot of expenses that can be cut, saved, and shifted to capital expenditures. Please check it in the 2017 and 2018 budget,” the President added.

Regarding budget efficiency measures, President Jokowi said it could be done by shifting expenditures on goods and state apparatus to capital expenditures, to increase development expenditure whose benefits can be felt by all people.

“Thus, yesterday, I instructed all ministers and heads of institutions to check out their budget in a detail manner. Cut the programs which are considered as a routine and those that do not bring direct benefits to the people, and shift it to capital expenditures,” the President stated.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also allowed the ministries to use capital expenditures, but not shift the budget to other ministries.  (FID/RAH/ES) (RA/EP/YM/Naster)
