Security Conducive Ahead of Christmas and New Year, says President Jokowi

President Joko Widodo said that the Government has carried out a number of efforts to secure the celebration of Christmas and New Year 2016 that only a few more days left. The celebration of Christmas and New Year is expected to be conducive because the Government has prepared for this.

 “We expressed our hope that this year’s Christmas celebration can show that Indonesia is a secure, prosperous, moderate, peaceful, and tolerant country,” Rev. Bambang Widjaja, the Chairman of Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI), told the journalists after, with the Chairman of Indonesian Bishops Conference (KWI), received by President Joko Widodo, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/12) afternoon.

Therefore, concerning the security of Christmas and New Year’s celebration, according to Rev. Bambang, any action or activity that indicate radicalism has been anticipated.

PGI Chairwoman Rev. Dr. Henriette T. Hutabarat-Lebang said that PGI and KWI appreciate the leadership of President Joko Widodo. According to her, there are a number of positive things that have been done under his leadership. The President is a humble figure who is ready to serve the people and becomes a role model for all Indonesians.

Meanwhile, Rev. Drs. Samuel Budi Prasetya, M.Si., said that the meeting also discussed PGI and KWI’s joint Christmas message.

“The theme of this year’s Christmas is Living Together as the Family of God (Hidup Bersama Sebagai Keluarga Allah). The key is to live together. We invite all christians in Indonesia to live together and preserve the nature as well as other creations,” Rev. Samuel said.

It is expected that with the spirit of Christmas, the people will try to build a more just and prosperous life and they are ready to live side by side with all Indonesian citizens regardless their differences. “Harmonious and peaceful life in Indonesia is one thing that makes it unique,” Samuel said.
