President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Saturday (15/2) officially reopened the newly renovated Manahan Stadium in the Central Javan city of Surakarta.

“Bismillahirrahmanirrahim (in the name of God, the most gracious and merciful), I hereby officially reopen Solo Manahan Stadium,” President Jokowi said.

Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, Solo Regent FX Hadi Rudyatmo said that following the renovation of the multipurpose sports stadium,, the management of the stadium was handed to Solo City Government. The renovation project itself costs up to Rp301.33 billion, he added.

“The stadium is now ready to host the upcoming U21 World Cup,” Hadi said.

The Solo Manahan Stadium can bow 20 thousand audiences featuring single seat. The type of grass used in the stadium is similar to that in Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium named Zoysia Japonica which is greener than typical stadium grass and has firm roots.

The stadium also has a roof that surrounds the above building, making it safe for the audience during rain or hot weather. It is also supported by lighting with quality up to 1,500 lux. The new stadium is expected to hold both national and international sport events. (EN)
