South Korea is Indonesia’s Strategic and Important Partner, President Jokowi Says

President Jokowi and President Park deliver a joint press statement in the Blue House, Seoul, South Korea, on Monday (16/5)

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodosaid that he is honored to be invited tothe Republic of Korea for a working visit.

The President made the statement during a joint press conference with President of the Republicof Korea,Her Excellency Park Geun-hye,at the Blue House, the official residence of the South Korean President in SeoulSouth Korea,on Monday (16/5).

“Republic of Korea is a strategic and important partner for Indonesia in the region. Republic of Korea is also Indonesia’s major partner in Asia. Cooperation on economic sector and industries between the two countries is very intensive,” the President said.

President Jokowi added that trade and investment volumes between the two countries now also show a significant figure.

“President of the Republicof Koreaand I have just discussed the issues of investment in Indonesia, and the Republic ofKorea is very interested in making investment in infrastructure projects (in Indonesia) such as toll roads, seaports, railways, power plants as well as in maritime sector,” the President added.

During the bilateral talk between the two leaders, the President said that Indonesia wants to focus on cooperation to accelerate industrialization in Indonesia as well as on the development of creative industries.

“Creative industries that we want to develop are fashions, cinemas, and broadcasting. Indonesia and the Republic ofKorea have also agreed to have high-level strategic dialog regularly,” the President said.

President Jokowi also asked the Government of the Republic ofKorea to give ease for fruit exports from Indonesia.

“We have also agreed that security and stability in the region, including in Korean Peninsulacannot be compromised and Indonesia also urged North Korea to abide by all resolutions of the UN Security Council. President Park and I also share the same view on the importance to promote international cooperation to fight against terrorism, particularly on the exchange of intelligence information. We have also agreed to address the root of the problem,” the President added.

At the end of his press statement, President Jokowi invited Her Excellency Park Geun-hyeto visit Indonesia.

During the working visit, President Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for the Economy DarminNasution, Minister of Foreign Affairs RetnoMarsudi, Presidential Chief of Staff TetenMasduki, and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) FrankySibarani (GUN/EN) (EP/YM/Naster)
