Sports Ministry Develops Long-Term National Sports System
Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali has reported the progress of drafting national sports system grand design to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“We have reported that we are now in the final stage of the grand design for national sports system,” the Minister said after attending a Limited Cabinet Meeting on Indonesia’s bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games, Wednesday (4/11).
The grand design is a follow-up to the President’s directive on the 37th National Sports Day last September. During the event, the President instructed Minister of Youth and Sports, the KOI (Indonesian National Olympic Committee), and the KONI (Indonesian National Sports Committee) to review the national sports ecosystem, and to design a system for athlete development to improve Indonesia’s sports achievements.
The Minister said that the public review of the grand design is underway. “We conduct roadshows for public review to various universities and other stakeholders. God willing, the grand design will apply for the long-term national sports system and for the 2032 Olympic Games,” he said.
In the meantime, Chairperson of the Indonesian National Sports Committee Marciano Norman expressed hope that the elaboration of the national sports system grand design will help Indonesia achieve more in the 2032 Olympic Games.
“In terms of sports achievements, currently badminton, weightlifting and archery are our strength. We hope that the elaboration of the grand design by Ministry of Youth and Sports will help the Indonesian National Sports Committee to make Indonesia become a good host in the 2032 Olympic Games and achieve more in the event,” he said.
The Indonesian National Sports Committee, he added, will make its best effort and review the long-term development of sports development in accordance with the grand design set by Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Regarding Indonesia’s bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games, Marciano said that the Indonesian National Sports Committee will fully support the Indonesian National Olympic Committee and Ministry of Youth and Sports in terms of strengthening personnel for the bidding team.
Marciano also expressed hope that the construction of venues for the 2032 Olympic Games will comply with international standards. (FID/TGH/UN)
