Secretariat for Cabinet Support (Setdukab) of Ministry of State Secretariat handed over static presidential archives to the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI), at the Ministry of State Secretariat’s building, Thursday (04/24). The archives that were handed over to ANRI were Laws stipulated in 2005 until 2008.

Secretary for Cabinet Support Fadlansyah Lubis in his statement said that the Setdukab remains committed to implement records management practices, especially those related to presidential archives and museums.

Head of the ANRI Mego Pinandito expressed appreciation for the Setdukab’s commitment to the presidential archives since these archives are important not only for the public but also for academics.

“They want access to various materials related to the presidential archives that will be used for studies and research in governance in the upcoming years,” Mergo said.

He went on to say that this event is an extraordinary moment. One single document of law records the process from the creation of the archive to the implementation of laws and regulations.

“Once again, we are committed to leaving valuable collective memories for future generations. We, as the institution tasked to preserve national archives, are very grateful and we would like to express appreciation to the Setdukab,” Mergo remarked.

In the meantime, Deputy for Cabinet Meetings Kardwiyana Ukar in his report said that archives handed to the ANRI had been checked, reviewed, and analyzed by an internal team and had also been verified by the ANRI team.

“We handed over 110 boxes consisting of 141 files in their original physical form that contain words delivered by the President,” he said, adding that the presidential archives have been digitized and stored in the presidential archives’ server. This digitization is one of the security standards to guarantee the security of information and to ease access of information.

For the record, the static presidential archives handed over to the ANRI were, among others, Law Number 4 of 2005 on the Establishment of the High Religious Court of Banten Province, along with its supporting documents; Law Number 13 of 2006 on Protection of Witnesses and Victims, along with its supporting documents; Law Number 16 of 2007 on the Establishment of Southwest Sumba Regency in East Nusa Tenggara Province; and Law Number 17 of 2008 on Shipping, along with its supporting documents.

Meanwhile, the archive symbolically handed over on the event was Law Number 14 of 2008 on Public Information Disclosure, which consists of 64 articles stating that every public institution must provide access for every public information. (RSF/HIM) (EST/MMB)
