Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia After Tree Planting, 8 December 2021, at Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan Province

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Today I am visiting Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan Province to plant trees for environmental restoration in former mining areas in West Kalimantan Province. We will also carry out the planting activities in other provinces.

This area was a gold mine back then in the 90s. Today we planted vegetation of fruit trees and other species. We hope that the tree planting activity can restore the environment in catchment areas (DTA) and watersheds (DAS) at Kapuas river and Melawi river. The upstream areas have been damaged by mining activities and plantations.

We hope this activity can be carried out in other places so that we can restore the environment in former mining areas. We will also build a nursery in the Kapuas river area to support replanting and restoration measures for our damaged forests.
