Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia during a Visit to Muaro Jambi National Cultural Heritage, at Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province, April 7, 2022

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Today I visited National Cultural Heritage in Muaro Jambi, Jambi province. As soon as we entered the compound, there are piles of bricks that are more than 1,000 years old. Even though it was built in the 7^th century, it proves that at that time technology already existed. The buildings could be built without cement.

Back then, it was the largest educational center in Asia in the 7^th century. The Muaro Jambi Cultural Heritage Area was not only about theology. It was also a center for medical education and medicine, then philosophy, then architecture and art, and others. What does it mean? It means that our civilization at that time was widely known.

This is historical evidence that we need to preserve so that the traces of our civilization, particularly in education sector, are well taken care of.

This year, Ministry of Education and Culture will resume restoration at several points. It will further show how huge the Muaro Jambi cultural heritage area is. With an area of approximately 3,980 hectares, it is estimated that this area is surrounded by a large canal, which will also be repaired and restored.
