Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia During Inspection to the Indonesian Center for Rice Research (BBPadi) in Subang Regency, West Java Province, July 12, 2022

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

This morning I come to the rice center (the Indonesian Center for Rice Research) of Ministry of Agriculture to monitor our food availability, especially rice, because this center prepares top varieties of rice seeds.

We are aware that the world is facing food shortage. Therefore, we must be vigilant, ensuring that our food supply remains in check. I also noticed what the rice center has been working on preparing for top varieties. They always find new varieties. And we understand the varieties that have been planted by the people are mostly Inpari 32 and Inpari 42, as well as other varieties.

Let me assert that seeds are crucial in increasing our rice production in each hectare. And if it is supervised by good Field Agricultural Advisors (PPL), one hectare of Inpari 32 and Inpari 42 can produce up to 12 tons. However, let us say that an average of 7-8 tons is already a great breakthrough for food supply, especially our rice supply.

And let me emphasize that we must not be reliant solely on rice. We must also develop other food sources, including sago, sorghum, konjac, rice, cassava, and others. We still have the opportunity to enhance the production of these food sources.

And I am confident that since we have not imported rice for three years, I am certain that we can immediately achieve rice self-sufficiency.

We are still in the process of replacing Ms. Lili Pintauli (Vice Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission). The dismissal decree was just issued. I signed it last week and we are still processing the replacement. We will propose it to the House of Representatives soon.
