Date 29 Juni 2018
Unofficial English Translation
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
It is an honor for Indonesia to receive the visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
Indonesia is the first country in ASEAN visited by Your Honourable after assuming office as Prime Minister.
I do remember very well in 2015, when I visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I was invited by Mr. Tun Mahathir to test drive a Proton car. Mr. Tun Mahathir drove the car himself at 180 km/h. It was so fast. But, I was not afraid, I was not worried because the driver was Mr. Tun Mahathir. If not, I think I was scared.
We have already engaged in a talk with Your Honourable and the delegates. In essence, we share the same commitment on good governance, eradicating corruption, the issue of the importance of connectivity and border-related settlement. One by one, we will start discussing the cooperation at the ministerial level forums. We also discuss cooperation in the border areas so both Malaysia and Indonesia will reap the benefits.
Second, we also discussed the protection for Indonesian migrant workers who live in Malaysia and also the construction of schools for the children of Indonesian citizens residing in Malaysia.
In relation to the international issues, we also talked about the South China Sea. We share the same commitment that settlement through dialogues that based on international law will be put forward.
I conclude my statement on this auspicious occasion.
I thank you.
