Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia on the Release of Humanitarian Assistance for Pakistan Flood Victims, at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, September 26, 2022
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
First of all, on behalf of myself and the people of Indonesia, I would like to extend our deepest condolences for the loss of life due to the floods and landslides in Pakistan.
Furthermore, the floods and landslides in Pakistan also generated a wide impact on the people of Pakistan, starting from damaged agricultural land, schools, houses, and infrastructure, forcing approximately 800,000 people to evacuate.
To ease the burden of our brothers and sisters in Pakistan and as a form of international solidarity, the Government of Indonesia provides humanitarian assistance in the form of approximately US$1 million in cash assistance. We will also dispatch assistance in the form of goods today. First, there are two planes and also the next ones, consisting of basic needs such as tents, clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, generators, medicines, and medical materials. I hope this assistance can help our brothers and sisters in Pakistan so that they can recover and return to their activities soon.
The assistance that will be provided does not stop here. In accordance with the request from the Pakistani government, we are also preparing assistance in the form of health workers which will soon be dispatched to provide medical services to Pakistani people affected by the disaster.
This concludes my statement. By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I officially dispatch the humanitarian assistance for Pakistan today.
I thank you.
Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. (FI/LW)
