Statement of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Friday, 29 August 2025
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
May prosperity be upon us.
Shalom.
Salve.
Om Swastiastu.
Namo Buddhaya.
My fellow citizens,
I have been closely following the latest development in recent days, particularly last night, when a demonstration escalated into violent acts.
There was also an incident in which law enforcement personnel struck an online motorcycle taxi driver, claiming the life of the driver Affan Kurniawan last night.
On my own behalf, and on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, I would like to extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy.
I am deeply concerned and saddened by this tragedy. The Government will ensure the welfare of his family, and will provide special attention to his parents and siblings.
My fellow citizens,
I am once again shocked and disappointed by the excessive actions of the personnel involved.
I have instructed that last night’s incident be investigated thoroughly and transparently, and that all personnel involved be held accountable.
Should it be found that they have violated laws and regulations, the firmest measures will be taken in accordance with the law.
At this time, I call upon the people to remain calm, and to place your trust in the Government under my leadership.
The Government I lead will always strive to do its utmost for the people. Every grievance expressed by the public will be heard and be followed up.
I also call on the entire nation to remain vigilant, especially against elements that consistently seek to incite disorder and chaos.
Let me emphasize to all the people that such actions bring no benefit to our citizens, to our society, nor to our nation.
Our country is in the process of improvement. We are garnering all our energy, our strength, and our resources to rise and build a strong, prosperous, and successful nation, to overcome poverty and hunger.
We shall become an advanced nation. We shall become a self-reliant nation, standing firmly on our own feet. We shall build an industrialized state equal to other nations.
Therefore, we must remain vigilant, we must remain calm, and we must not allow groups who seek to incite disorder and unrest.
Legitimate aspirations may, certainly, be expressed. And we will address all that need improvement.
That concludes my statement.
I thank you.
Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
May prosperity be upon us.
Shalom.
Om Santi Santi Santi Om.
Namo Buddhaya.
Thank you.
Merdeka!
