Statement of the President of the Republic of Indonesia On the Crash of Sriwijaya SJ 182 Aircraft, Sunday, 10 January 2021, the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java Province
Yesterday afternoon and last night I received a report from Minister of Transportation regarding the crash of a Sriwijaya aircraft flight SJ 182 during flight from Jakarta to Pontianak in the Thousand Islands waters.
I, on behalf of the Government and all Indonesian people, would like to express my deep condolences on this tragedy. And yesterday afternoon I ordered Minister of Transportation, Head of the Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), assisted by the TNI (Indonesian National Defense Forces) and the Polri (Indonesian National Police), to carry out search and rescue operations as quickly as possible for the victims.
We are doing our best to find and save the victims. And we pray together so that the victims can be found.
I have also ordered the KNKT (National Transportation Safety Commission) to conduct an investigation on the accident.
That concludes my statement on this occasion.
I thank you. (RI/MEP)
