President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Saturday (22/04) appealed to the public who will take part in the annual exodus ahead of Eid (mudik) to stay vigilant and careful during the trip.

On his recorded remarks on Cabinet Secretariat YouTube channel, the President said that after celebrating Eid during the COVID-19 pandemic for three years, the people this year can take part in mudik without the emergency public activity restrictions (PPKM).

“I wish you a Happy Eid. Let’s forgive one another. May Allah subhaanahu wa ta’alaa accept our deeds of worship during the month of Ramadan. This year we will take part in mudik without PPKM after we were on pandemic situation for three years. Indeed, there will be an increase in people’s movement as it will be dense and crowded. Therefore, I appeal to the public to stay vigilant during mudik and their return,” the President said.

Echoing a similar sentiment, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung expressed hope that the first Eid after the lifting of the PPKM policy would bring peace to everyone. He also wished Muslims all over Indonesia a Happy Eid.

“After facing COVID-19 pandemic for three years, we will celebrate Eid this year peacefully because the Government has successfully tackled the COVID-19 challenges. I wish you a peaceful celebration and gathering with families. May Eid bring blessings to all of us. (MAY/BPMI SETPRES/UN) (GA/EP)
