President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo emphasized two things that need to be done to strengthen foreign exchange reserve so that Indonesia’s economy is stronger and grows well and can deal with global uncertainty. They are import control and increase in exports.

“Imports must be evaluated; imports for unstrategic goods should be stopped or reduced,” the President firmly said in his introductory remarks at the Limited Cabinet Meeting on Strategy of Policy to Increase Foreign Exchange Reserve at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Tuesday (31/7) afternoon.

Beforehand, the President reminded to immediately implement the mandatory use of biodiesel. He also asked to regularly update the progress because based on data, it can save foreign exchange from fuel import amounting to US$ 21 million per day.

The President also highlighted the increase of the use of Local Content Requirement (TKDN), that has been discussed since 1.5 or 2 years ago but has not fully implemented.

“Keep supporting the growth of import substitution industry,” the President added.
