A festive atmosphere filled the front courtyard of Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (06/27). Amid the rows of honor guards stood the cheerful faces of thousands of schoolchildren, just as eager to welcome the arrival of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on his official visit to Indonesia.
From Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara all the way to the palace gate, the children enthusiastically waved their hands, greeting President Prabowo Subianto and PM Anwar. For them, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to set foot in the Presidential Palace Complex and welcome a visiting head of state in person.
“It was so exciting, really wonderful. I feel so proud that I could come here,” said Fadya, a student from SDN (state elementary school) Mangga Dua Selatan 01, her eyes sparkling with joy.
Rafa, Rezky, and Bimo from SDN Duri Pulo 02 also couldn’t hide their excitement. It was their very first time seeing President Prabowo in person.
“I feel happy and excited. I really want to meet him and shake his hand,” said Rafa enthusiastically.
For Munzir from SDN Duri Pulo 010, the visit to the Palace was truly unforgettable. He shared how he volunteered to join the group so he could see both President Prabowo and the Malaysian Prime Minister.
“Yes, I wanted to come because I’ve never met the President or the Prime Minister of Malaysia,” he said.
The students’ presence at this state ceremony was far more than just a formality. In their small hands, they carried the spirit of Indonesia’s future, witnessing firsthand how their country welcomed an international guest. Today, they returned home with stories to tell: of waving little flags and a memorable moment at Merdeka Palace. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (AS/TM)
