Support the Shipyard Industries, President Jokowi Asks TNI/Polri Not Import the Ships
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reiterated his request to the government institutions, both in the military and police, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of KKP, Ministry of SOEs, to buy a boat made in the domestic shipbuilding industry.
“No more are purchasing ships from abroad. I want to encourage shipbuilding industries, our industries should be willing to cooperate with investors. It is also to accelerate the market, we are not only able to work on the domestic market but also able to work on export markets,” President Jokowi said in the introduction of limited cabinet meeting (ratas) at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Monday (29/6).
Ratas which discusses shipbuilding industry attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK), Coordinating Minister for Maritime Indroyono Soesilo, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Sofyan Djalil, Minister of SOEs Rini Soemarno, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Industry Saleh Husin, and Minister of Commerce Rachmat Gobel.
Also, present on the occasion, Minister of Planning/Bappenas Andrinof Chaniago, Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto, and Chief of the Presidential Staff Luhut Pandjaitan as well as Deputy Minister of Finance Mardiasmo.
President Jokowi said, this meeting is a follow-up to his visit to Batam some time ago. As we know that, there are 105 shipbuilding industries there.
“Last week I came to Batam and met with the governor, also shipbuilding industrialists. Now I truly know that actually we had approximately 250-shipbuilding industry, which exists in Batam approximately 105,” President Jokowi said.
President Jokowi sees many potential industries that can be developed further in our country. Because actually, we can producing various types of vessels.
“What I see that the shipyard there capable to produce large vessels of 17,500 GWT. Either in the form of tankers, cargo, passenger ships, ferries, and all has been able to do,” President Jokowi said. . (DID/AGS/ES)
