Surabaya Bombings: Gov’t Will Cover Medical Expenses of the Victims

Suicide bombings perpetrated by terrorists at three churches in Surabaya, namely Church of the Immaculate Saint Mary (Gereja Santa Maria Tak Bercela) at Ngagel, Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) at Jalan Diponegoro, and Pentecostal Church at Jalan Arjuna on Sunday (13/5), have killed at least 13 people and left dozens more wounded.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a press conference at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya, on Sunday (13/5) invited all people to pray for the fallen victims.

On the ocassion, President Jokowi expressed his hope that the victims will get mercy and blessing from the Almighty God, and the families of the victims got the strengths to bear the pain. The President also invited people to pray for the wounded victims.

“The state, the Government guarantees to cover all medical expenses of the victims,” President Jokowi said.

Accompanying the President during the press conference were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security affairs Wiranto, Chief of Indonesian National Police General Tito Karnavian, Commander of Indonesian National Defence Force (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Head of National Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan, and Special Envoy of the President for Interfaith and Intercivilization Dialogue and Cooperation Din Syamsuddin.
