Tanimbar Islands Residents Welcome President Jokowi

Thousands of residents of Tanimbar Islands regency in Maluku province Thursday (01/09) welcomed President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo during his working visit to the regency.

“For more than 50 years, no President has ever visited Tanimbar Islands regency. The people are so eager to meet their leader,” the President said.

On the second day in his visit, the people also greeted the President along his trip from Olilit market to the post office.

Ad Interim Regent of Tanimbar Islands regency Daniel Indey said the last President who visited the regency was President Soekarno back in 1958.

“Surely the people are happy and enthusiastic on welcoming President Jokowi, considering that the last President visiting Tanimbar was President Soekarno in 1958,” Daniel remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RI/EP)
