President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (03/01) attended the groundbreaking ceremony of Telkom Smart Office in Nusantara Capital (IKN), East Kalimantan province.

“It will strengthen digital connectivity, strengthen digital platforms, improve digital services in the IKN, and provide a world class ICT service in the IKN. I am of the view that Telkom will speed up all measures to make the IKN a smart city, and speed up e-government services,” the President said.

The President also said that the infrastructure development in the IKN will speed up the great transformation in the city.

“The location [of the IKN] is far [from other cities], but we designate this location based on many considerations. The infrastructure is not finished yet. We have started the construction of Balikpapan toll road to the IKN and the project will be completed, God willing, in June or in July. It will reduce the travel time from 2 hours to approximately 40-45 minutes,” the President said.

The President further said that the construction of the airport in the IKN is expected to be completed in June or July.

“In June or July, once the project is finished, the IKN can be accessed from Jakarta or from other cities through the airport, and the travel time from the airport to this location is 15 minutes. The IKN will be much more accessible,” the President remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RI/MUR)
