Thailand PM Responds Positively Several Enhanced Indonesia-Thailand Partnership
Prime Minister (PM) of the Kingdom of Thailand Anutin Charnvirakul enthusiastically welcomed the enhancement of the partnership between Indonesia and Thailand, including the establishment of the Indonesia–Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap for 2026–2030. PM Anutin noted that the roadmap would serve as a guideline to strengthen bilateral cooperation while delivering tangible benefits for the people of both nations.
“I appreciate the completion of the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026-2030, which will guide future cooperation between the two countries to realize capabilities and bring mutual benefits,” stated PM Anutin during a joint press statement with the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta on Monday (08/03).
PM Anutin further expressed his appreciation for the progress in defense and security cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand.
“We have also agreed to further strengthen defense ties between the two countries to tackle various emerging challenges and threats in the future,” he added.
In efforts to eradicate transnational crime, PM Anutin emphasized that Indonesia and Thailand will bolster cooperation in tackling online scams, human trafficking, and drug trafficking, which pose shared threats. He also reiterated Thailand’s commitment to expediting the repatriation process of Indonesian citizens who fell victim to online scams.
“There are still more than 500 Indonesian citizens awaiting repatriation to Indonesia, and I will accelerate the process as soon as possible,” he highlighted.
In the economic and investment sectors, PM Anutin affirmed the commitment of both nations to continuously boost bilateral trade and investment. According to him, the state of the Indonesian economy provides optimism for Thai businesses actors to partner with Indonesia.
“Thai business actors have high confidence in Indonesia’s economic prospects and wish to partner in Indonesia’s economic growth, particularly in the agro-industry, food processing, sustainable fisheries, halal industry, energy, services, and digital economy sectors,” he stated.
In the energy sector, PM Anutin stated that Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to reactivate the Indonesia–Thailand Energy Forum. Through this forum, both countries are expected to strengthen cooperation in achieving energy security.
“The Thai private sector has also demonstrated increasing interest in investment in Indonesia, particularly in the oil, natural gas, coal, and new energy sectors,” he continued.
Additionally, in the tourism sector, PM Anutin noted that both countries welcomed the addition of direct flight routes connecting Indonesia and Thailand, as well as the strengthening of cooperation in the health tourism, the meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) industry, and cruise ship tourism.
“Both sides welcome the addition of flights on two routes, specifically Bangkok-Jakarta and Phuket-Bali,” he said.
The meeting between President Prabowo and PM Anutin also resulted in an agreement to strengthen cooperation in education, which is expected to foster knowledge exchange between the two nations. PM Anutin also expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian Government for its support to Thai students in Indonesia.
“Currently, more than 800 Thai students are pursuing higher education in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the most popular study destinations for Thai students, particularly those hailing from the Southern border provinces of Thailand,” he stated.
Concluding his statement, PM Anutin expressed his appreciation to President Prabowo for supporting efforts to resolve the situation in Southern Thailand’s border areas. “I express my appreciation to President Prabowo for his support toward Thailand’s approach to resolving the situation in the Southern Thailand’s border provinces,” concluded PM Anutin.
