Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto said that it needs to be careful in purchasing alutsista (primary weaponry defense system). There are several things that must be taken into account before purchasing them. First, Indonesia’s region is quite large. Thus, the alutsista must be able to be used to maintain security in this large area.

“Second, we must be realistic. It means, the purchase of alutsista should not burden the State Budget that could hamper the policies in other sectors. “So, the purchase must be well-considered. It must be efficient,” Wiranto told the journalists after Limited Meeting on the Policy of Alutsista Procurement, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (26/7) afternoon.

The Minister also added that, in the future there will be a new technology that is cheaper but can reach national region, either for military, defense, or civilian interests. It is called drone.

“One of our targets is to develop the industry of multifunction drone so it can be used for military as well as civilian interests,” Wiranto said.

Nevertheless, the Minister ensured that we must still strengthen the defense system for determine factor so that in an international diplomacy, our country is still respected by other countries. If our defense system is not strong other countries will underestimate us.

The Minister firmly said that the purchase of alutsista must be well considered so it can meet the interests of national defense, but it will not burden for the State Budget and will not be an obstacle for other government programs. (RMI/RAH/ES) (MMB/YM/Naster)
