President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo reminded that Hajj Fund comes from the people, not from the Government. Although now, there is a special agency, Hajj Fund Management Agency (BPKH), that will manage this fund, the President asked to use the fund prudently and must comply with prevailing laws.

“It must not conflict with the prevailing laws,” the President told the journalists after attending Lebaran Betawi X, held at the Center of Betawi Cultural Village, in Setu Babakan, South Jakarta, on Sunday (30/7).

Regarding the issue of using Hajj Fund for infrastructure projects, the President said it is just one example. The President allows to use this fund for Sukuk (Islamic  Bonds) or to put it in a sharia bank.

“Please remember that it is the people’s funds. Whether it is used for sukuk, infrastructure, or sharia bank, it must be carefully calculated,” the President firmly said.It is better if the fund is put in certain places that can bring benefits for the Moslems in particular, and for the country in general.

“Once again, it must be carefully calculated and must comply with prevailing laws and regulations,” the President further said.
