Transportation Minister Delivers Apology for Commuter Line Accident

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that evacuation process of the Jakarta-Bogor commuter line, which was derailed at Kebon Pedes, Bogor on Sunday (10/3) afternoon, is expected to be completed on Monday evening.

“We will conduct the evacuation process immediately. We hope that tonight the evacuation will be completed and tomorrow the line can operate normally,” Budi said during his inspection to the location of accident in Bogor, Sunday (10/3).

Budi added that the evacuation equipment, including a crane, was on its way from Bandung Railway Station.

“Please accept my sincere apology for the accident.” Budi said, adding that the commuter line service from Jatinegara to Cilebut station still operates and the commuters who need to go to Bogor from Cilebut and vice versa may use other modes of public transportation.

After inspecting the accident site, Budi visited injured passengers who got medical treatment in Salak Hospital.

“The Doctor (at Salak Hospital) said that there are 9 passengers being treated (at the hospital), two of them are referred to another hospital for CT Scan. The Doctor said that the victims have no severe injuries,” Budi said, adding that all medical costs will be fully paid by State Rail Company PT KAI and Ministry of Transportation. He also said that the cause of the train derailment is under investigation.

For the Record, based on data from the Jakarta Banten Train Technical Agency, Ministry of Transportation and commuter line company PT KCI, at 12:10 Western Indonesian Time all passengers have been successfully evacuated. The numbers of confirmed victims are 17 passengers; 9 of them were treated at Salak Hospital Bogor and 8 others were treated at health clinic of Bogor Station. (Humas Kemenhub/ES)
