Trigana Air Lost Contact, President Jokowi Asks MoT and Airlines Give Clear Information

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invites all people of Indonesia who were commemorating 70th Anniversary (HUT) Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia to pray and a moment of silence for calamity of the Trigana Air plane lost contact on the way from Jayapura to Oksibil, Papua, on Sunday (16 / 8).

“I implore all people of Indonesia, ahead of the Independence Day, a moment of silence and prayer for the whole crew and passengers,” wrote President Jokowi in a press statement on Saturday (16/8) night.

President claimed to have obtained a report from the Minister of Transportation, Ignatius Jonan related to the lost contact of Trigana ATR 42 aircraft.
“I have ordered the Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) to lead directly in searching the plane by deploying the entire force,” the President said while mentioning, that the Ministry of Transportation and Basarnas Team assisted the military and police on last Sunday (16/8) flew to Papua.

President Jokowi also asked the Ministry of Transportation (MoT) and Air Trigana help families of passengers get very clear information about the search developments of the aircraft, crews, and passengers.

“I ask the National Committee of Safety of Transportation to work immediately to investigate the incident,” wrote President Jokowi.

Crashed into Mountain

Meanwhile reports citing from Ministry of Transportation (MoT), Ignatius Jonan from the Chief of Jayapura SAR, President Jokowi through facebook fanpage, Sunday (16/8) night wrote, the Trigana Air plane that lost contact found in Camp 3, Okbape District, Pegunungan Bintang Regency.

“The information obtained from the public conveyed that plane crashed into Mount Tangok. While the evacuation team combined BPBDs, Task Force Post 133, Koramil, Oksibil Post and Police, moved to the scene (TKP),” Chief of Jayapura SAR said in the report to Minister of Transportation Ignatius Jonan.

The Trigana Air ATR 42 Plane with flight number PK-YRN took off from Sentani Airport in Jayapura at 14:22 local time with an estimated arrival time in Oksibil 15:04 local time. But the plane that carrying 49 passengers with 5 crew members were reported missing contact since 15:00 local time. (Tim Komunikasi Presiden/ES)
